Recommended walks along the Trent and Dove Valley

There’s lots of ways to discover the Trent and Dove Valleys but nothing beats exploring and discovering this varied landscape on foot. We have compiled a series of recommended walks, including the Trent Valley Way, a long distance footpath along the River Trent.

Trent Valley Way
Who doesn’t like walking along a river? We know that walking has lots of benefits over above simple enjoyment; it boosts the immune system, improves joint flexibility and helps lower blood pressure. Even better, walking in the outdoors, amongst nature, has been proven to boost our mood and improve our mental wellbeing.

The Trent Valley Way has been created to provide an opportunity to explore the River Trent Valley; passing cities, towns and villages; connecting with wildlife and places of interest. It connects the cities and towns which have built their business, industry and heritage on the River Trent, or within its floodplain.

Trent Valley Way Route Maps

The Trent Valley Way forms a key part of the Trent Valley landscape and is a popular walking route for local walkers and long-distance hikers. A map of the whole of the Trent Valley Way within the Transforming the Trent Valley project area is available here.

Below are links to detailed maps showing the route for the Trent Valley Way within the Transforming the Trent Valley project area. As well as the main Trent Valley Way, there are also a series of circular and linear routes or spurs connected to the main path taking in other points of interest and visitor attractions close to the River Trent. Some sections are interim routes due to quarrying, and are subject to change.

Trent Valley Way Circular Walks

If you don’t want to tackle the whole length of the Trent Valley Way, why not try one of the circular walks in the area? These shorter walks are a great way to explore parts of the landscape along the Trent Valley, without having to worry about getting back to your car or the bus stop!
