Burton Washlands is the natural floodplain of the River Trent as it flows through the town. It is a beautiful greenspace and parkland in the heart of Burton-upon-Trent that naturally holds water during times of flood and is an important habitat for a wide array of species.
More frequent flood events are one of the effects of climate change and so building resilience into our floodplains is important to reduce the impact that flooding has on people, wildlife and the economy.
We are working in partnership to promote nature conservation and a more environmentally sustainable approach to greenspace management. This includes delivering ecological improvements to the area through enhancements to grassland, woodland, ponds and river habitat.
