This oral history project aims to reignite people’s enthusiasm for, and connection with rivers. Working with specialists in oral history and storytelling we will gather people’s recollections and thoughts about the past present and future.
This will also be a cross generational project. The older generation will share their stories of how they used the rivers in the past or share stories handed down through their predecessors. We will work with local schools to help the next generation start their journey and forge connections and associations with the river which we hope will last a lifetime. We will identify a number of opportunities within the project where we can train young people to participate in interviewing older people.
There will be a lasting legacy through the collection of memories which will be shared on the internet through partners’ websites/YouTube etc.
The use of the information through various forms of interpretation within the project area will also ensure that the memories are used in other media.
